Guy but I ill try to keep my review as simple as possible. First off, the display is lovely, it's an IPS LCD screen, this by far is not the best screen on the market but Huawei has done a great job in keeping the colors rich and bright.

The size of the screen is perfect for watching videos. I spend a lot of time on youtube and other streaming sites and because of the screen I rely on my phone more than my tablet to watch said videos.

The wide aperture effects is great, it really makes you photos stand out. Night shots is above average and videos do not shake much when moving. The phone does have the option of inserting a micro-sd card so you can expand your storage to save your photos and videos.

The front facing camera is an 8 MP and its takes good selfie photos and it has a wide angle view so taking those group selfies is problem free. The Speaker - The phone has a twin grill however there is only one speaker.

This is fine as the speaker performs above average and it can get really loud before it distorts the sound. The Battery - The Battery is a mAh. This is one of the most important components of the phone for me.

Because of the amount of power it holds I get more than a day of charge, and note I'm an above average user of the phone; wifi, streaming, pics, social media, etc. In addition to the amount of power, the rapid charge technology also is a great addition.

Usually I would have to charge my previous phones over night to get a full days charge. But this is not the case with the mate 9. I would leave it to charge for about 30 mins and I'm good for the day.

IR Blaster - This is a great feature. In my bedroom I use 6 remotes and sometimes family members tend to use said remotes and misplace them, with the mate 9 I control my cable box, TV, Stereo, Air-condition and more.

So when i get home after a hard day of work I don't get into arguments for the misplaced remotes, I just whip out my phone select which remote I want and just use it.

Performance - Since I got this phone I have no issues with performance, I never experienced any lag, overall performance has been fluid. Like everything else, there is a few cons: The screen can be shrunk to the left or the right for one hand operation.

I strongly recommend a screen protector or a temper glass to protect from scratches and cracks. Overall this is a great phone and I highly recommend it. Comment people found this helpful.

Was this review helpful to you? I had no issues with SIM cards or setup. I will give a quick impression now and then update later after I've spent some time with it. Out of the box, externally it looks beautiful.

I love the metal back and the dark color. The screen is huge with very small bezels. I'm used to 2k screens but the on this phone looks so crisp I barely notice the difference.

The software seems pretty well optimized. I was able to switch launchers easily. I had some issues with their backup software so I just manually did everything through google. Very little lag and everything opens immediately.

The camera is very fun to use and has a lot of features to play with. The battery life is great compared to my old phone. I play Clash Royale and check it frequently for texting and social media and snapchat and I can easily get through the day without having to charge it.

There is very little drain while the phone is idle also, which is nice. As long as you don't leave a ton of apps open constantly. They have a function that alerts you to background processes using up heavy battery, but it can get a little frustrating with Facebook and Spotify.

Those two apps will constantly restart themselves in the background to refresh info, so I'd say once every hour or so I get a warning alerting me to close background apps that aren't physically running on the phone.

The app itself is killed there is just a process running. Would be nice to be able to permanently lock the Facebook app from reopening itself, but I don't so much blame the phone for that as I do Facebook developers.

Performance is still great. With past phones they tend to heat up when using games, even right out of the box, but the Mate can handle everything I threw at it with no lag.

No problems across the board. I noticed the notifications do not appear on your lock screen by default, like not even an icon saying you have a notification. You have to go into each app in the settings individually and select which appear on the lock screen.

Otherwise without unlocking it you have no way of knowing you have a message besides the LED. T-Mobile claimed in its filed suit that Huawei's employees snuck into a T-Mobile lab during the period of and stole parts of its smartphone testing robot Tappy.

The Huawei employees then copied the operating software and design details, violating confidentiality agreements that both companies signed. Furthermore, Huawei is now using that intel to build its own testing robot.

A Huawei spokesman stated to The New York Times that there is some truth to the complaint, but that the two employees involved have been fired. T-Mobile has since stopped using Huawei as a supplier, which T-Mobile says could cost it tens of millions of dollars as it moves away from its handsets.

Huawei responded to the lawsuit by arguing that Tappy was not a trade secret, and that it was made by Epson, not T-Mobile. T-mobile dismissed Huawei's arguments, and contended that Epson had provided only a component of the robot.

In the US, officials and politicians within the federal government have raised concerns that Huawei-made telecommunications equipment may be designed to allow unauthorized access by the Chinese government and the Chinese People's Liberation Army, [] [] [] [] given that Ren Zhengfei, the founder of the company, served as an engineer in the army in the early s.

In a open letter, Huawei stated that the security concerns are "unfounded and unproven" and called on the U. The organization found that only a few investment deals were blocked following unfavorable findings by the CFIUS or had been given a recommendation not to apply, however all large transactions had been politicized by groups including the U.

In October, the Indian Department of Telecommunications reportedly requested national telecom operators to "self-regulate" the use of all equipment from European, U.

In October, The Wall Street Journal reported that Huawei had become Iran's leading provider of telecommunications equipment, including monitoring technologies that could be used for surveillance.

In, it was alleged that Huawei Technologies India had developed telecommunications equipment for the Taliban in Afghanistan, and newspapers reported that the Indian government had launched a probe into the firm's operations.

In March, Australian media sources reported that the Australian government had excluded Huawei from tendering for contracts with NBN Co, a government-owned corporation that is managing the construction of the National Broadband Network, [] following advice from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation regarding security concerns.

In July, Felix Lindner and Gregor Kopf gave a conference at Defcon to announce that they uncovered several critical vulnerabilities in Huawei routers models AR18 and AR29 [] which could be used to get remote access to the device.

The researchers said that Huawei "doesn't have a security contact for reporting vulnerabilities, doesn't put out security advisories and doesn't say what bugs have been fixed in its firmware updates", and as a result, the vulnerabilities have not been publicly disclosed.

Huawei replied that they were investigating the claims. In December, Bloomberg reported that the U. The US House Intelligence Committee had said on November 18 that it would investigate foreign companies, and a spokesman for Huawei said that the company conducts its businesses according to normal business practices and actually welcomed the investigation.

On 9 October, a spokesman for Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper indicated that the Canadian government invoked a national security exception to exclude Huawei from its plans to build a secure government communications network.

Specifically, the Andrew antennas were part of a large order for Huawei telecommunications gear that MTN Irancell had placed through Soda Gostar, but the MTN Irancell says it canceled the deal with Huawei when it learned the items were subject to sanctions and before any equipment was delivered.

On 19 July, Michael Hayden, former head of U. National Security Agency and director of Motorola Solutions, claimed that he has seen hard evidence of backdoors in Huawei's networking equipment and that the company engaged in espionage and shared intimate knowledge of the foreign telecommunications systems with the Chinese government.

Huawei's global cybersecurity officer, John Suffolk, described the comments made by Hayden as "tired, unsubstantiated, defamatory remarks" and challenged him and other critics to present any evidence publicly.

National Security Agency has since been operating a covert program against Huawei. This involved breaking into Huawei's internal networks, including headquarter networks and founder Ren Zhengfei's communications.

In, German cybersecurity company G Data reported that it had found that malware that can listen to calls, track users, and make online purchases was found pre-installed on smartphones from Chinese companies including Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Huawei.

When G Data contacted the companies to let them know about the malware, Huawei replied that the security breaches must have taken place further down the supply chain, outside the manufacturing process.

In, Canada's immigration department said it planned to deny permanent resident visas to three Chinese citizens who worked for Huawei over concerns the applicants are involved in espionage, terrorism, and government subversion.

Best Buy, the largest consumer electronics retailer in the United States, is also completely eliminating Huawei products from its stores. Army Strategic Studies Institute report on Argentina published in September describes Huawei as "known to bribe and trap clients.

According to a WikiLeaks cable, in, Michael Joseph, then-CEO of Safaricom Ltd, allegedly struggled to cancel a contract with Huawei due to poor after-sales experience, after which the Kenyan government pressured him to reinstate the contract.

In October, 7, Huawei employees resigned and were then rehired on short-term contracts, thereby apparently avoiding the unlimited contract provisions of the Labour Contract Law of the People's Republic of China.

The company denied it was exploiting loopholes in the law, while the move was condemned by local government and trade unions. Huawei's treatment of its workforce in Guangdong Province, Southern China also triggered a media outcry after a year-old software engineer, Hu Xinyu, died in May from bacterial encephalitis, as a result of what is believed [ by whom?

In its Corporate Social Responsibility report, Huawei highlighted the importance of employee health and safety. In, Huawei provided annual health checks to all full-time employees and performed 3, checks to employees exposed to occupational health risks.

Equipped with a mono speaker, the Huawei Mate 10 Lite offers a somewhat decent sound performance as long as volume remains at low to medium levels with fairly balanced mids and highs. Higher levels of volume result in increased highs and decreased mids.

Lows bass are absent regardless of volume level. Unlike the Nova 2, the Mate 10 Lite does not support high-resolution Bluetooth audio transmission via aptX. However, the slightly smaller Galaxy S8 was even more efficient than our review unit.

Combined with the somewhat decent yet not overly impressive power consumption, battery life is quite decent albeit shorter than expected. That said, its closest competitors outran the Mate 10 Lite in pretty much every battery test we conducted.

Huawei does however include various power saving presets that can help to improve battery life. The smallest and most affordable member of the Mate 10 family turned out to be very interesting indeed.

Apart from its name, the Mate 10 Lite has little in common with the Mate series in general. It is, however, a fairly decent smartphone. Panel size aside the Huawei Mate 10 Lite has little in common with the other two members of the Mate family.

It lacks NFC, the battery is smaller, the SoC is much slower, the Leica dual camera setup is nowhere to be seen, aptX for high-resolution Bluetooth audio is not supported and instead of Super Charge it only supports QuickCharge.

All things considered, it still turned out to be a fairly decent smartphone, particularly for those who prefer their smartphone screens to be big and massive. We would have wished for fewer compromises when compared with its two larger siblings though, and battery life could have been a bit better to boot.

Ren Zhengfei, a former deputy director of the People's Liberation Army engineering corp, founded Huawei in in Shenzhen. Rather than relying on joint ventures to secure technology transfers from foreign companies, which were often reluctant to transfer their most advanced technologies to Chinese firms, Ren sought to reverse engineer foreign technologies with local researchers.

At a time when all of China's telecommunications technology was imported from abroad, Ren hoped to build a domestic Chinese telecommunication company that could compete with, and ultimately replace, foreign competitors.

The company reports that it had RMB 21, in registered capital at the time of its founding. During its first several years the company's business model consisted mainly of reselling private branch exchange PBX switches imported from Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, it was reverse-engineering imported switches and investing heavily in research and development to manufacture its own technologies. It was by far the most powerful switch available in China at the time.

By initially deploying in small cities and rural areas and placing emphasis on service and customizability, the company gained market share and made its way into the mainstream market.

Ahrens writes that these methods were "unorthodox, bordering on corrupt," but not illegal. Huawei also gained a key contract to build the first national telecommunications network for the People's Liberation Army, a deal one employee described as "small in terms of our overall business, but large in terms of our relationships.

Another major turning point for the company came in, when the government in Beijing adopted an explicit policy of supporting domestic telecommunications manufacturers and restricting access to foreign competitors.

Huawei was promoted by both the government and the military as a national champion, and established new research and development offices. In, Huawei won its first overseas contract, [34] providing fixed-line network products to Hong Kong company Hutchison Whampoa.

The agreement established the terms and conditions for the supply of Huawei's solutions to any one of the Vodafone operating companies worldwide. In May, Huawei and Optus developed a mobile innovation centre in Sydney, Australia, providing facilities for engineers to develop new wireless and mobile broadband concepts into "ready for market" products.

The company launched the world's first end-to-end G solution from routers to transmission system that same year, to help meet the rapid growth of network traffic and enhance router efficiency and reliability.

The company also announced that SaskTel would carry its new Ascend Y smartphone. Huawei has focused on expanding its mobile technology and networking solutions through a number of partnerships.

Huawei and American security firm Symantec announced in May the formation of a joint-venture company to develop security and storage solutions to market to telecommunications carriers.

The joint-venture was based in Chengdu. In, Huawei launched a joint venture with UK-based marine engineering company, Global Marine Systems, to deliver undersea network equipment and related services.

Revenues from China rose 9. Huawei's revenues in accounted for Ericsson, according to market-research firm Gartner. It denied using Chinese subsidies to gain global market share after being recently accused by US lawmakers and EU officials of unfair competition at best.

Huawei classifies itself as a " collective " and does not refer to itself as a private company. Richard McGregor, author of The Party: The Secret World of China's Communist Rulers, said that this is "a definitional distinction that has been essential to the company's receipt of state support at crucial points in its development.

Ren Zhengfei is the president of Huawei and has held the title since Sun Yafang is board chair. As of, the members of the board [60] are Ms. Officially, Huawei is an employee-owned company, a fact the company emphasizes to distance itself from allegations of government control.

Ren retains a direct 1. Employees' shares do not entitle them to any voice in management decisions. The Secret World of China's Communist Rulers, claimed that the majority of shares are likely owned by Ren Zhengfei and Ren's managers, though the company states Ren directly owns less than 1.

The four-year deal represents Huawei's first mobile network deal in the UK. Huawei announced its Enterprise business in January, to provide network infrastructure, fixed and wireless communication, data center, and cloud computing solutions for global telecommunications customers.
